Egbert van der Does makes handmade leather shoes for men and women: Doesshoes.
Colourful, trendy or classical shoes. Highly original, made to fit, according to taste.
Egbert is an artist. For over 23 years he had been painting and drawing, until he came to the point that he no longer found total fulfilment in doing so.
As long as he remembers he has loved shoes. In fact he finds shoes the most impor¬tant part of our clothing. As a young boy, in the early sixties, he recalls being totally fascinated by a pair of boots John Lennon wore in a magazine photo.
Egbert could never really find shoes to his own taste. "Especially shoes for men are like cars in the twenties: black or brown, uninspiring and often even quite ugly".
As he was seeking for new artistic challenges he decided to start making them himself.
Egbert learnt all necessary designer skills and shoemaking craft at an institute for vocational training in Nieuwegein. In order to put theory into practice he started working for an orthopaedic specialist on voluntary basis, which -until today- he still does. To stay sharp he pays regular visits to befriended shoemakers who give him technical advice in exchange for lessons in pattern drawing. Fruitful and inspiring visits, he calls them.
Inspiration
Egbert gets his inspiration from all sorts. He has an instinctive feeling for shapes and colours and loves experimenting. It's a way of life. Usually he starts off with different pieces of leather and lets his fantasy guide him through the shoemaking process. Funny, extraordinary buckles, beads and accessories trigger his mind for further creative ideas.
Over the years Egbert has collected more than 100 beautiful leather types to choose from. He occasionally designs new heels, which also inspire him to create certain shoe types. 
How to recognize Doesshoes
Doesshoes are elegant, handmade, genuine leather shoes. In a sense they are classical shoes. Artificial materials, such as plastics, are hardly ever used. Sometimes leather is combined with painted material. Colourful, uncommon and unique.
Doesshoes are personal shoes, made in colour combinations you choose. You may be looking for a pair of shoes to match a suit or dress? Anything is possible. Even a bit of embroidery (logo, symbol) can personalize the shoe you're looking for.
And if the desired leather type or colour isn't in stock, Egbert will go search for it.
